Optimised heat dissipation
In our casing designs, appearance plays a secondary role – optimising the heat sink area takes definite priority. The black colour on the casing has little to do with aesthetic preference, and much more to do with optimising heat dissipation. In addition, the shot-peening process microscopically increases the surface area by up to 120% to improve heat dissipation efficiency even further.
Material
The casing is made of extremely hard, impact-resistant 7075 aluminium alloy. This tough material is used in weapons and aerospace – M16 machine guns are made out of it.
Our CNC-machined colourless anodised aluminium covers also provide a striking design contrast in seven different optional anodised colours in the Extra version.
Surface
Our casing surfaces are subjected to two surface treatments – first, hard anodising to give the surface a hard oxidised protective layer resistant to salt water; and second, the shot-peening process, which involves blasting surfaces with shot. Especially used in reinforcing heavy-duty objects, this process has found a prime purpose in the aerospace industry. As an aside, shot peening also improves the tactile grip on the casing, making our lamps extremely pleasant to touch, handle and feel.
